Squad update from Exeter Chiefs

Young centre departs for the Championship while Canadian international extends stay at Sandy Park

Squad update from Exeter Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs have confirmed two key player updates across their men’s and women’s squads as centre Chester Ribbons signs a permanent deal with Cornish Pirates, and Emily Tuttosi extends her stay with Exeter Chiefs Women.

Ribbons makes permanent switch to Pirates

The 22-year-old centre has been on dual registration with the Pirates during the 2024/25 season and will make the move full-time for the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

“I’m delighted to be signing with the Pirates,” said Ribbons. “I’ve loved my time on loan this season and feel I’ve made strides in my game since arriving.”

Originally from Yorkshire, Ribbons first caught Exeter’s attention while playing for Exeter University (EURFC) in the Super BUCS league. Despite battling injury setbacks during his time with the Chiefs, he made a strong impression both for EURFC and the Pirates, where he has now made more than ten appearances.

Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter said, “We're delighted that Chester has been given the opportunity to stay playing Championship rugby with Pirates.

He's a young player we’ll be keeping a very close eye on. It’s a fantastic opportunity for him to get game time and continue growing.”

Tuttosi commits to Chiefs Women

Meanwhile, Canadian hooker Emily Tuttosi has penned a new contract to remain at Sandy Park. A stalwart since Chiefs Women’s inaugural season in 2020, the 29-year-old has made 74 appearances and scored 29 tries.

“I’m feeling blessed to know I have another year playing for Exeter,” said Tuttosi, who is currently representing Canada in the Pacific Four Series.

“This club has been a fun place for me to grow on and off field, connect with the community, and enjoy the Exeter way of life.”

Interim head coach Steve Salvin praised Tuttosi’s influence on and off the pitch, “Emily is such an important part of our squad. Her infectious energy is a cornerstone of our culture. She’s a physical, internationally respected player and extremely effective at the set piece. We look forward to her return after the Women’s Rugby World Cup.”
