Exeter City head to Lincoln in search of six-game unbeaten streak

The Grecians face a tough test against a free-scoring Imps side

Exeter City head to Lincoln in search of six-game unbeaten streak

Momentum is building for Exeter City, and Gary Caldwell’s side will be looking to keep the good times rolling when they make the long trip to LNER Stadium to face Lincoln City on Saturday at 3:00pm.

The Grecians are unbeaten in their last five League One outings, and last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Rotherham United – which saw Alex Hartridge notch his first league goal – was another step in the right direction.

Now, they’ll be looking to go one better against a Lincoln side who have found their shooting boots in recent weeks.

It won’t be easy. Lincoln are flying, with their last two home games yielding 4-1 and 5-0 victories. The Imps have been ruthless at LNER Stadium, and Caldwell knows his side will have to be at full tilt to bring anything back to Devon.

“Lincoln are a very efficient and well-coached team who have a clear identity and know how they win games, and they put you under a lot of pressure," Caldwell admitted. “We know what to expect, and we will have to be at our very best if we want to get something from the game.

“They are in great form and have won several times at home this season very convincingly, and we need to be prepared for that. Earlier in the season it was two teams who cancelled each other out, and it was frustrating, and we were missing some international players. We don’t have that this time round.

“We want to keep the unbeaten run going and keep picking up points.”

The last meeting between these two sides ended in a goalless stalemate at St James Park, a fiery affair that saw red cards shown in the dugout and on the pitch. It was Lincoln who had the better chances, but Joe Whitworth stood firm between the sticks to ensure City took a share of the spoils.

Exeter sit five points behind Lincoln, who occupy 12th place in League One, and a positive result here would see Caldwell’s side make further ground on the mid-table pack. Lincoln, meanwhile, will be keen to continue their hot streak, having thumped Bristol Rovers 5-0 last time out.
