Fans heading to St James Park for Exeter City's match against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday will be treated to a special musical performance by Phil Smyth, paying tribute to his late father, club legend Cec Smyth.
Phil will perform in the fan zone before kick-off from 1pm to 2.30pm and again post-match in the Centre Spot from 5pm to 6.30pm.
A seasoned singer and guitarist with over 30 years of experience, he will entertain fans with upbeat, sing-along anthems to set the matchday atmosphere.
Cec Smyth, a former full-back known for his tenacity on the pitch, joined Exeter City from Distillery in Belfast and made 273 league appearances for the Grecians between 1962 and 1969.
He was a key figure in the club’s 1964 promotion-winning squad and was admired for his dedication and consistency. Cec passed away in Exeter on 7 November 2008 at the age of 67.
Reflecting on the opportunity to perform at St James Park, Phil said:
"Growing up, I heard all the stories of his time playing for the club—facing legends like George Best, Jimmy Greaves, and Bobby Charlton, the promotion team of 1963, and his passion for the game. Now, I get to follow in his footsteps in my own way, performing in the same venue that meant so much to him.
"If my dad were here today, I know he’d be beaming with pride. It’s a full-circle moment, and one that I’ll cherish forever."
Phil encouraged fans to come along and enjoy the performance, adding: "Being able to perform at Exeter City feels like an incredible tribute to him. While I can't share this moment with him in person, I know he’s watching over me, smiling and proud of the journey I've made."
Supporters are invited to arrive early or stay after the final whistle to enjoy the special tribute performance.
