At the weekend, Exeter City Women secured a 4-2 victory over Billericay Town in an away fixture.
The Grecians established a commanding lead in the first half, netting four goals. An own goal by Billericay initiated the scoring, followed by a strike from Sophie Gillies. Amber Pollock and Maya Kendell each added to the tally, with Kendell marking her first goal for Exeter.
Billericay managed to score once before halftime and again early in the second half, but Exeter's defense held firm to secure the win.
This victory propelled Exeter City Women to second place in the league standings.
The team made five changes from their previous match, including the return of Amber Pollock and captain Bow Jackson from injury. Liv Giles was selected as the goalkeeper, while Beth Ireland partnered with Pheobe Baker in midfield.
The match commenced with Billericay creating an early opportunity, but Exeter quickly found their rhythm. The opening goal resulted from high pressing, leading to a defensive error by Billericay. Shortly after, Gillies capitalised on a pass from Pollock to double the lead.
Despite Billericay's efforts, including goals on either side of halftime, Exeter maintained their advantage through a resolute defensive performance.
Exeter City Women will look to build on this strong performance in their next match against Ipswich Town on Sunday, February 16, at The Martello Ground. With returning players and tactical adjustments proving key to their success, they will aim to secure another important victory.
