Exeter City Women are set to kick off their 2025 campaign this Sunday, as they travel to Billericay Town’s New Lodge Stadium for a 2pm kick-off. With the men’s team away at Stevenage, why not make it a double-header weekend in the South East?
Following a two-week break after their 1-1 draw with Gwalia, Abbie Britton’s squad is "raring to go" as they look to secure their first three points of the year.
The Grecians will be hoping to return to winning ways, having played their last match in mid-January. Britton reflected on the break, describing it as a “nice reset” for the team, allowing them to refocus and fine-tune their approach. “It’s been a good time to step back and get ready for what’s next,” she added. “The training sessions have been busy."
Billericay Town, who Exeter defeated 4-1 in December, will be no pushovers. Since their last encounter, the Blues have experienced mixed results in the league, but they’ve found form in cup competitions, winning two local trophies. Colin Reid, who took over as manager in early December, has had ample time to work with his team, and they will be determined to build on that momentum.
New signing Elicia Mulvaney will be one to watch for Billericay. The former Oxford and London Bees striker marked her return to the UK with a goal in a recent victory against Bowers and Pitsea. Currently sitting 8th in the league, Billericay is seven points clear of the relegation zone and looking to surpass their 10th-place finish from last season.
Despite Billericay’s recent form, Exeter will be confident heading into the match. The team’s last meeting ended with a dominant 4-1 win for City, and with a squad full of energy, they’ll be hoping to make it two wins in a row over the Blues.
Abbie Britton and her players will be eager to make a statement in the first game of the year and set the tone for the rest of the season. With their eyes firmly set on three points, the Grecians are determined to pick up where they left off before the break.
