Exeter City are back on the road this Tuesday evening as they face Peterborough United in a 7:45pm kick-off at the Weston Homes Stadium. Following a narrow 1-0 defeat to league leaders Birmingham City on Saturday, the Grecians are looking to channel the positives from recent performances into their midweek clash.

Peterborough, currently 19th in Sky Bet League One, have endured a mixed season but managed to secure a commendable draw against in-form Leyton Orient over the weekend. Despite their position, Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell is under no illusions about the challenge ahead.

“They are still a very dangerous team,” Caldwell said. “We saw that in the home game – they were fantastic with their counter-attacking play that day.

“We know the quality they have. They’ve got an experienced manager who understands how to get teams out of this league. Even though they are below us, it is going to be an extremely difficult game where we have to be at our very best.”

The Grecians will don their black and gold third kit for the clash, with the backing of travelling fans who Caldwell was quick to praise. “As ever, we thank every Grecian making the trip. Sing loud, sing proud, and help the lads to three points.”

Midfielder Kevin McDonald is also anticipating a stern test. The versatile player filled in at centre-back on Saturday following Tristan Crama’s departure and Johnly Yfeko’s injury. Reflecting on his defensive role, McDonald said: “I’ve played in a four before at Fulham when I was a bit younger. The manager asked me to do a job at centre half and I felt fine doing it. We were positionally okay and dealt with it well. If I’m asked to do a job, I’ll go out and do the best I can.”

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s game, McDonald noted the importance of a strong start: “They are a good team, who have always had a good group of players come through with a mix of experience. If you don’t start well against them, they can cause you real threats.

“I think if we can start bright, put pressure on them early doors, and frustrate the crowd, we can only see it as a real positive.”

Exeter City will be eager to bounce back in this challenging fixture, with the support of their passionate fans set to be a driving force. Can the Grecians bend it like Beckham and outshine the Posh?
