Miron Muslic appointed as Argyle boss

Plymouth Argyle have appointed Austrian Miron Muslic as their new Head Coach on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Muslic succeeds Wayne Rooney, who left the club on New Year’ Eve after a difficult run of results that saw the Greens drop to the foot of the Sky Bet Championship.

Argyle chairman Simon Hallett told the club website: "Miron had a clear vision of how he wanted to take Argyle forward and showed a depth of tactical awareness that made it clear exactly how he wanted the team to set up and play.

“He comes with glowing reviews from his time at Cercle Brugge where he took a team from a lowly league position to European football which is no mean feat.

“I want to welcome him to the club and look forward to seeing him have an immediate impact on the team.”

As a player, Muslic enjoyed a career in the lower leagues of Austrian football, moving into coaching with Floridsdorfer AC in the summer of 2020. Muslic then switched to Belgian club Cercle Brugge, initially as assistant boss, before moving into the top job in September 2022.

He quickly established a reputation for playing expansive, high-press football, while also promoting young players through the ranks. The formula worked superbly, as he guided Cercle Brugge from a side struggling in Belgian’s top flight to one that qualified for Europe after finishing fourth in the table.

Muslic left his previous role in early December and now has four months to hopefully steer the Pilgrims clear of the Championship relegation zone.

First-team coach Kevin Nancekivell and club captain remained in charge for the FA Cup game at Brentford and Muslic begins his reign with three home games, against Oxford United, QPR and Burnley.
