Exeter and Bolton condemn racism in official statement

Exeter City Football Club and Bolton Wanderers have condemned all forms of racism and discrimination following an alleged incident during Saturday’s League One match at St James Park.

Both clubs have reaffirmed their zero-tolerance approach and commitment to taking action against those responsible for unacceptable behaviour.

The alleged incident occurred late in the match, with Exeter City reporting that a racist comment was directed at their player, Josh Magennis, by a Bolton supporter. The incident has been reported to the police, and Exeter City has pledged to fully co-operate with the ongoing investigation.

Exeter City is offering support to Magennis, both directly and through the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA). In a united statement, the clubs underlined their shared dedication to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment in football.

“There is no place for racism or discrimination in football or society. We stand firmly with Josh Magennis and are committed to ensuring such behaviour is eradicated from our game,” Exeter City stated.

Fans are being urged to report any instances of racist or discriminatory abuse. Reports can be made using the Kick It Out app, by alerting a steward at the stadium, or by texting ‘Help ECFC’ to 62277.

Both Exeter City and Bolton Wanderers have reiterated their stance against racism, working together to ensure football remains a sport for everyone, free from hatred or prejudice.
