Exeter City Women will bring an unforgettable 2024 to a close on Sunday afternoon as they face Lewes at Coach Road. A win for the Grecians could see them climb to second place in the Southern Premier League, setting the stage for an exciting 2025.

It has been a landmark year for Abbie Britton’s side, highlighted by promotion in May, a second consecutive Devon County Cup victory, and a deep run to the FA Cup Fourth Round. Securing victory on Sunday would cap off a near-perfect year and solidify their position as contenders in the division.

The game will take place at Coach Road, Newton Abbot, with kick-off at 2:00pm. The venue features seating for 280 fans, an all-weather pitch, and facilities including a licensed bar and food services.

Lewes, who were relegated from the Barclays Championship last season, underwent a significant rebuild under manager Natalie Lawrence. Only three players from last season’s squad remain, with a host of new signings bringing fresh energy.

The Rooks currently sit fifth in the league, with wins against strong opponents like Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle. Despite a 4-0 FA Cup loss to Charlton Athletic last weekend, they pose a formidable challenge.

Manager Abbie Britton acknowledges the test Lewes will provide, saying, “It’s going to be a more difficult test than when we played them the first time around.”

Reflecting on 2024, Britton expressed pride in her team’s achievements and optimism for what lies ahead.

The Grecians triumphed 4-0 in their first meeting with Lewes this season, thanks to goals from Sarah Stacey, Sophie Gillies, and Bow Jackson. However, the score line didn’t fully reflect the competitive nature of the match, and Exeter are preparing for a tougher challenge this weekend.

Exeter City Women’s final game of 2024 promises to be a thrilling encounter. Don’t miss the chance to cheer them on as they aim to close the year in style. Click here for tickets.
