Exeter City Women made a dramatic late comeback, scoring three times in the final 30 minutes to secure a 3-2 victory over Gwalia United, keeping them top of the Southern Premier Division.

With team captain Bow Jackson away, Jaydee Seaman took on the role, and Mollie Taylor returned to the starting lineup.

Early efforts from Zoe Cunningham and Amber Pollock created chances for Exeter, but Gwalia took the lead when Kylie Nolan converted a cross from Ellie Sargent.

Exeter nearly fell further behind when Nolan’s shot hit the post.

In the second half, Gwalia extended their lead with a penalty goal by Elena Cole, putting Exeter in a challenging position.

However, Exeter responded positively when Georgie Barbour-Gresham scored from a corner kick delivered by Emily Toogood.

Sophie Gillies later hit the post and then equalised with a follow-up shot after a rebound from Sarah Stacey’s attempt.

Exeter goalkeeper Abbi Bond made a crucial save to keep the score level, and in the final moments, Gillies sent a volleyed pass across the goal for Stacey to score the winning goal.

Despite a tough and often disjointed performance, Exeter’s determination saw them overcome Gwalia’s chances.

The win keeps Exeter at the top of the table, and they now look forward to their next challenge against Oxford United at St James Park next Sunday.
