Caldwell sees room for improvement despite win

Caldwell will be addressing 'teething problems' this week

While he was happy with his team’s performance, City’s manager Gary Caldwell saw room for improvement before the Grecians take to the field in League One on Saturday.

City beat their National League opponents 3-0, with the game giving some players an opportunity to get crucial minutes under their belt before the new season begins.

“I thought we were good, again there’s little issues, teething problems,” Gary said. “New players played for the first time like Johnly and Tristan, and Joe’s only played a few games. There are little details to iron out.

“Overall I’m delighted with the players’ application and intent. We scored some good goals and had some really good moments, but little things we have to iron out before next week.”

The one negative of the game came in the tenth minute, when Yanic Wildschut went down with what looked like a nasty knee injury.

“That’s the only disappointing thing from the day really, Yanic’s injury, it doesn’t look great. I don’t want to say what it could be until the scan.

“But there looks like there’s damage to his knee, fingers crossed it’s not as bad as we fear.”

City's first League One game of the season is at 5.30pm on Saturday August 10 at home against Rotherham.
