Gary Caldwell took many positives from the defeat to Bristol
Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell was pleased with what his side could take from their pre-season match trip against Bristol City.
The Grecians lost 2-1 against their Championship opponents but the boss saw positives in the performance.
Caldwell said: "It was another brilliant game for us in terms of the quality of opposition, the quality of the pitch. A really good test for us.
“I thought first half we were excellent, we controlled the game by and large, gave a chance away at a corner but I thought we were in control. We created moments where the final pass wasn’t quite there but if it had been we were in.”
Playing against a team from a higher division gave City more to work on defensively, which is something where Caldwell thinks the Grecians still have room to improve.
“We spoke a lot about our defending and how we want to be better next season. Today we’ve come up against a good opposition and I thought the finish for their second goal was outstanding.
“We have to be much tighter and much more diligent in our defending to stop opportunities like that.”
