Heartache for Ollie

Olli Watkins playing for Exeter City

England manager Gareth Southgate consoled Ollie Watkins after England's dreams of Euro glory ended in heartache in Berlin last night.

Mikel Oyarzabal struck a late winner as Spain grabbed the Euro 2024 trophy via a 2-1 win.

Former Exeter City and now Premiership and England star Ollie could only stand and watch Spain lift the trophy adding to England's never-ending wait of winning a championship.

Boss Southgate, whose future is now in doubt, wrapped his arms around Ollie as the Aston Villa striker and his team-mates were left totally dejected and in tears.

Spain opened the scoring with a goal from Nico Williams' two minutes after half-time. England captain Harry Kane was taken off following a disappointing display up front only for Cole Palmer to follow in Ollie's footsteps and become the latest England hero off the bench to strike an equaliser.

Extra-time was looming when Marc Cucurella's cross was turned home by Oyarzabal in the 86th minute, leaving the Three Lions with little time to roar back before the final heart-wrenching full time whistle.
