Caldwell dissects Derby defeat

Gary Caldwell's team conceded three goals

Gary Caldwell was today reflecting on a bad night at the office which saw his Exeter City side lose 3-0 at home to Derby County.

The ruthlessness of the Rams and their quality in the final third shone through as the second placed side cemented their spot in the automatic promotion spots.

"It was a bad night in moments. We gave bad goals away," Gary said.

"We have found that clubs at the top of this league have a level of speed and physicality that means if you give them even a half chances then they punish you.

"In periods we played well, we started the game well, but the first goal hit us quite hard. But we recovered from it better than we did a few weeks ago against Bristol Rovers here.

"In the second half we just didn't get going but the lads never gave up. I can't fault their effort as we tried to win the game from the start, all credit to them. I felt at 2-0 even a goal could have changed things, but in games like this you have to be perfect or they will punish you."
