Lace up your running shoes and prepare to tackle the legendary Dartmoor Marathon, which is set to return after a 30-year hiatus on April 12, 2026.
Supported by Tavistock-based Flapjackery, the marathon will take runners across the stunning Dartmoor National Park, showcasing some of the UK's most iconic landscapes.
The race will be directed by Dave Chanter, a seasoned marathon organiser and runner with over 50 years of experience. As the founder of the Tavistock Run Project, Chanter has coached athletes to national competition levels and is excited to bring this challenging event back to the southwest. "We are thrilled to revive the marathon with the support of volunteers, local communities, Dartmoor National Park, and, of course, Flapjackery, whose backing has made this event possible," he said. "We hope this becomes a staple in the marathon calendar, attracting runners from all over to experience the incredible beauty of Dartmoor."
Flapjackery, a local company known for its handmade flapjacks, will be a key sponsor for the event. Managing Director Carol Myott expressed her excitement, "We are delighted to support the Dartmoor Marathon. Tavistock is where Flapjackery was born, and Dartmoor is such a special place. It’s a privilege for us to be part of an event that celebrates the adventurous spirit of the area." Flapjackery will be on hand to fuel runners with their energy-packed flapjacks, the perfect snack for the long, tough race.
The marathon will cover the full 26.2-mile (42.195km) distance, starting on Plymouth Road, weaving through the picturesque villages of Whitchurch, Moorshop, Merrivale, Princetown, and Dousland. Runners will take in breathtaking views around Burrator Reservoir and through Walkhampton, Horrabridge, and Whitchurch, with the race concluding at Tavistock's Town Hall.
Entries are now open for the 2026 Dartmoor Marathon, with a special early bird offer giving a £10 discount off the entry fee until April 1.
