The M5 has been closed following what traffic monitoring website Inrix described as a “serious accident” in Devon.
National Highways said the closure is between junction 28 at Cullompton and junction 29 near Exeter after a collision involving two cars.
The incident was reported shortly after 07.30am.
Devon and Cornwall Police, South West Ambulance Service and National Highways Traffic Officers were called to the scene.
Inrix said: "M5 Southbound closed, stationary traffic due to serious accident, two cars involved from J28 A373 Honiton Road (Cullompton / Service Area) to J29 A30 Honiton Road (Exeter / Honiton)."
National Highways said the carriageway was closed to allow emergency services to work safely, with traffic officers providing traffic management support.
