Thomas Hall School in Exeter welcomed Steve Race MP this month for his first official visit to the school, marking a day of engagement with pupils, staff, and the wider school community.

During his visit, Mr Race toured the school with the pupil senate, met members of the school’s LGBT+ group, and learned about initiatives designed to create an inclusive and supportive environment.

The highlight of the visit was the launch of the school’s reward assembly, a new programme celebrating the achievements and contributions of pupils across Thomas Hall.

Speaking to students, Mr Race praised their dedication and commitment to fostering a positive school culture.

He also took time to discuss current issues in education and hear directly from pupils about their experiences.

At Thomas Hall, students’ voices play an important role in shaping school policies and initiatives, including programmes designed to improve attainment and wellbeing.

Phil Arnold, Headteacher of Thomas Hall School, said: "We were thrilled to have Mr Race visit our school. His engagement with our pupils and interest in their achievements was wonderful to see.”

“Our reward assemblies are a brilliant way to celebrate the positive contributions of our pupils, and having our MP here to launch one made the occasion even more special."

Mr Race added: "I was delighted to visit Thomas Hall School recently and celebrate the positive contributions pupils are making to school life, and to talk to staff about how they are already succeeding in improving the educational attainment of the young people who study here.”

“The school has recently received additional support under the government’s new approach to driving up attainment, including targeted guidance from the Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence (RISE) Team.”

Steve also said that, “Thomas Hall has had a number of academy operators over recent years, and I’m really glad that the current Head and team are already driving significant improvements for pupils.”

“It was great to hear directly from pupils and staff about the work they’re doing together to ensure the school offers a good education and a welcoming environment for everyone."

The visit included the launch of the reward assembly, a programme designed to recognise the achievements and contributions of pupils across Thomas Hall School.
