A new gym is set to open at Exeter Science Park this winter, bringing dedicated health and fitness facilities to the fast-growing site on the edge of Exeter.

The venue, named The Engine, will occupy the ground floor of the Ada Lovelace Building and has been developed in partnership between Exeter Science Park and LED Community Leisure.

It is the first gym to be based at the park, which is home to a cluster of science, tech and engineering businesses and serves workers and residents from Exeter, Cranbrook and surrounding communities.

Inside, the gym will feature a 55-station fitness suite with cardio and resistance machines, free weights, a functional training area, and a group exercise studio offering both instructor-led and virtual classes.

Changing facilities, an InBody body-composition machine and staff trained in exercise referral and health programmes will also be on site.

Exeter Science Park CEO Sally Basker said the new facility had been part of the park’s plans for some time: “It has always been part of our long-term vision to establish a gym, which will contribute to a thriving, inclusive environment where science, innovation, health and wellbeing go hand in hand,” she said.

“LED’s community-focused ethos and high-quality delivery make them the ideal organisation to operate a facility that will benefit both Science Park tenants and our neighbours across Exeter and East Devon.”

LED Community Leisure CEO Olly Swayne said the project reflected a growing demand for accessible health and fitness provision: “The Engine will offer premium equipment, expert staff and a full programme of group exercise and personal training,” he said.

“We look forward to welcoming the Science Park’s pioneering businesses and local people from Cranbrook, Pinhoe and surrounding communities.”

Work to fit out the space is already underway. A soft launch is planned for 20 December, with full opening scheduled for 2 January 2026.
