Exeter is set to host a protest tomorrow, Saturday 29 November, as part of the national “Defend Our Juries” campaign, which organisers describe as “the most widespread mass civil disobedience in modern British history.”

The demonstration will take place outside Exeter Central Station on Queen Street, with participants expected to gather from 1pm and disperse later in the afternoon.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that officers will be on duty throughout the event, working closely with organisers, local businesses, and partners to ensure the protest remains peaceful while minimising disruption for residents and shoppers.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We are aware of protests planned to take place on Queen Street, Exeter, on Saturday 29 November, and we will have an increased policing presence during this time.”

“Officers are looking to liaise with protest organisers to ensure people can exercise their right to protest peacefully while minimising the impact on residents and businesses.”

“We will facilitate people’s right to protest peacefully and adopt a proportionate and reactive approach, but any disorder will not be tolerated, nor will we facilitate any activity that places protestors, the public or officers at risk.”

Residents and visitors can expect an increased police presence in the city centre during the afternoon.

Officers will also be deployed more widely across Exeter to reassure the public and maintain normal access to shops, services, and public areas.

The protest is one of several planned across the UK as part of the campaign, which is drawing attention to concerns over jury trials and the justice system.

Local authorities and police are urging anyone planning to travel through the city centre to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
