Exeter is set for a spell of heavy rain and gusty winds this week, with forecasters warning of possible flooding and difficult travel conditions from Tuesday afternoon into the evening.

“The heavy rain is expected through the afternoon and into the evening tomorrow for Exeter,” a Met Office spokesperson said.

“Heavy rain accompanied by strong southerly winds will give difficult driving conditions and may produce flooding in places.”

“Outbreaks of rain arriving from the west during Tuesday morning will turn heavier and more persistent during Tuesday afternoon, with a strengthening southerly wind and gales developing in places.”

Local rainfall of 20-40mm is likely across Exeter, with the wettest spots possibly seeing up to 70mm, particularly on south-facing slopes near the city.

With recent weather leaving ground saturated, some flooding may occur, and drivers are warned of delays and hazardous conditions, especially during the evening commute.

The rain may continue into Wednesday, though confidence in the exact timing and intensity is lower.

Residents are advised to stay updated, as the Met Office may extend the warning or issue a fresh alert if conditions worsen.

By later in the week, cooler air is expected to move in, with rain easing and drier, brighter conditions returning over the weekend. Exeter residents are encouraged to check local forecasts and take precautions against flooding and travel disruption.
