Exeter’s Barnfield Theatre will host Gurt Haunted this Halloween, a tongue-in-cheek West Country comedy that mixes ghost-hunting thrills with plenty of local humour. The show runs for two nights on 30 and 31 October.
Described as “Most Haunted Live meets This Country”, the part-improvised performance follows Tony Chestnut and his team of self-styled mediums and investigators as they attempt to uncover the South West’s paranormal secrets.
From haunted coastal homes to the lingering ghosts of Mr Blobbyland, audiences are invited to take part in the investigation, blurring the line between believer and sceptic.
The interactive performance invites audiences to join the fun, helping the team uncover supernatural secrets while questioning whether they’re true believers or have just had one too many ciders.
Exeter Northcott, which is presenting the show at the Barnfield, said they couldn’t be more thrilled to bring Gurt Haunted to local audiences this spooky season.
Martin Berry, the Creative Director and Joint Chief Executive of Exeter Northcott Theatre, said: “We’re so excited to be presenting Gurt Haunted at the Barnfield this Halloween! Perfect for the spookiest time of year, it’s a wonderfully silly, slightly spooky, and brilliantly local comedy that celebrates the South-West's love of ghost stories with a big wink to the audience.”
“Packed with larger-than-life characters, homegrown humour, and plenty of surprises, it’s a show that promises shrieks of laughter as well as a few playful scares. Whether you’re a fan of the supernatural or just up for a good giggle, Gurt Haunted is the perfect way to spend a Halloween night out in Exeter.”
“Full of local flavour, ghoulish fun, and that unmistakable Barnfield warmth. Don’t miss it — it’s going to be a scream!”
The performance has already caught the attention of locals who are keen for some light-hearted Halloween entertainment.
Exeter resident, Sam Richards, said: “It’s nice to see something that celebrates the South West’s humour and quirks. It sounds like the perfect mix of funny and eerie.”
Another local, Lucy Bennett, added: “I love that it’s not just about scares and there is some comedy coming this Halloween! There’s something very familiar about those comedic ghost-hunting shows”.
Tickets for Gurt Haunted at the Barnfield Theatre are now available via the Exeter Northcott website.
