M5 Congestion Near Exeter Causes Major Delays for Motorists

Traffic on the M5 near Exeter is currently moving at a crawl, with the AA reporting average speeds of just 15 mph.

Motorists are experiencing heavy delays in both directions around the city, as queues build on approaches to and from Exeter. The slow-moving traffic is affecting commuters, delivery drivers, and long-distance travellers alike.

The congestion follows an earlier accident on the M5 northbound between Junction 31 (Okehampton turn off) and Junction 30 (Exeter / Service Areas). Queues have built up on approach, with congestion stretching back to the northbound A38 Devon Expressway at Splatford Split. Surrounding routes around Exeter are also heavily congested as drivers seek alternative ways around the delays.

Drivers are being urged to check live traffic updates and allow extra time for their journeys. Officials advise considering alternative routes or delaying non-essential travel until conditions improve.
