Exeter-based author, entrepreneur and YouTuber Sandra Bellamy has been named a double finalist in the Global Women’s Business Awards, recognised in both the Speaker of the Year and Diversity and Inclusion categories.

Sandra, who discovered she was asexual in 2014, has spent the past decade raising awareness through her YouTube channel, Asexualise My Asexual Life. Her channel has recently surpassed 1.4 million views.

Her videos and talks explore topics such as identity, relationships, and self-confidence, helping others live boldly and authentically.

Sandra first began hosting asexual meetups in Exeter in 2015, drawing attendees from across the UK. She said she chose the city because of its welcoming and inclusive spirit.

Telling Exeter Today, Sandra explained: “I held asexual meetups in Exeter for over five years and people travelled from all over the country to be part of them. I chose Exeter because I love living here, it’s accessible, open-minded and feels like one big community.

“Gay and lesbian couples can be open and affectionate here, and that same sense of acceptance made Exeter a safe space for people on the asexual spectrum to connect, feel understood, and have a sense of belonging.”

From tech meetups to writing circles, Sandra now continues that mission by engaging with local Exeter groups and business communities to spark conversations about diversity and inclusion.

She says that by sharing her story and work in these wider settings, she’s helping others better understand what asexuality means and how to support people within the LGBTQIA+ community in Exeter and across Devon.

“Being open about asexuality has led to some incredible conversations,” she said. “I’ve met people who realised a loved one might be asexual, or who felt able to open up about their own sexuality for the first time.”

“It’s about breaking down barriers through honest dialogue and Exeter provides the perfect environment for that. The city is full of curious, creative and compassionate people who genuinely care about inclusion.”

For Sandra, being recognised on a global stage is not only a personal milestone, but also a proud moment for the Exeter community she represents: “These awards aren’t just about me, they represent Exeter, the asexual community, and anyone who has ever felt unheard. If I win, it will be a victory for diversity, acceptance and the power of authentic connection, something that Exeter embodies every day.”

The Women’s Business Awards, hosted by Women’s Business Club, celebrate women making an impact in business and community. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London this December, streamed live worldwide.

Voting for the awards opens on 1 November.
