Southern Healthcare’s Exeter home among four in Devon shortlisted for major national and regional care awards recognising excellence and compassion in care.

An Exeter care home has been recognised as part of an award-winning Devon group nominated for 11 national titles celebrating excellence and compassion in care.

The Old Rectory in Exeter, part of the Southern Healthcare group, is among four homes across Devon shortlisted for major industry awards, including the Neurological and Complex Care Awards and the Caring UK Awards.

Southern Healthcare is shortlisted for Outstanding Complex Care Provider and Exceptional Training and Development at the Neurological and Complex Care Awards.

The group is also in the running for Best Care Group of the Year and Best Initiative in Care for its in-house training at the Caring UK Awards.

All four homes in Devon that are part of Southern Healthcare, including The Old Rectory in Exeter, The Seaton in Seaton, Sefton Hall in Dawlish and Parkwood House in Plymouth, have recently received the Platinum Award from The Eden Alternative UK

The Old Rectory in Exeter is one of four Devon homes operated by Southern Healthcare. The home focuses on residential and dementia care, with staff trained in person-centred practices to support residents’ independence and wellbeing.

Kerry Dempsey, the manager of The Old Rectory, told Exeter Today: “We are proud to be acknowledged in these award nominations as part of the Southern Healthcare care group. Our team’s daily kindness and commitment to residents and to each other makes our home a vibrant, spontaneous and loving place to live and work.”

“Southern Healthcare’s values are so embedded in the way we do things at The Old Rectory that coming into the care home doesn’t feel like work because we are spending the day with our friends.”

She added: “I feel privileged and really proud to work with such wonderful people, who endeavour daily to make the lives of our residents fulfilled and to make them feel cherished and loved.”

. Managing Director, Geoffrey Cox, said the nominations are a reflection of the dedication and professionalism of care teams across Exeter and beyond. 

He said: “Our care teams work tirelessly and with compassion to deliver high quality care, which is deeply person centred. They have created vibrant homes full of possibility, where they build meaningful relationships and bring laughter and moments of joy into everyday life.” 

Mr Cox added: “I’m really proud of Southern Healthcare and our teams. They work with compassion and dedication to ensure our residents live meaningful, purposeful lives whilst creating a sense of belonging in all our care homes.” 

The winners of this year’s national and regional care awards will be announced later in 2025.
