UK temperatures set to rise with Indian summer reaching Devon

Exeter looks set to enjoy a spell of mild and settled weather this week, with the Met Office forecasting sunnier skies and warmer afternoons than many might expect for late September. 

Daytime highs are expected to reach around 17°C in the city, with clear or lightly clouded skies allowing for brighter afternoons. 

Nights will feel chilly, dipping to around 5°C, but overall conditions are expected to remain largely dry.

When compared with Exeter's usual September averages, this weather is intriguing. Typically, daytime highs at this time of year hover around 18°C with overnight lows closer to 11°C, and the city usually receives about 59mm of rain across the month. 

This week's forecast suggests afternoons may feel close to average, but the sharper drop in night-time temperatures will be more noticeable. However, the sunshine will make a welcome difference after recent unsettled spells. 

 The warm spell is expected to develop from mid-week, likely from Wednesday or Thursday, and could last into the weekend. 

For Exeter residents, the timing offers a chance to make the most of outdoor plans before autumn takes hold. Parks such as Northernhay Gardens and Belmont Park will be particularly inviting, with plenty of opportunities for afternoon picnics or a relaxed stroll.
