Paws for a cause

The event promises to be a 'pawesome' day out

The summer holidays will end on a high note in Exminster with a brand-new charity event for families and their four-legged friends.

Pawesome Day Out takes place on Sunday 31 August from 12pm at St Martin’s Football Club, promising an afternoon packed with activities, stalls, food, and fun – all in aid of street dogs and cats in Sri Lanka.

The event is organised by local business Claudia’s Canines, run by Exminster-based dog walker Claudia Pinn, in partnership with Lucas Helps Dogs, a UK and Sri Lanka-based charity.

Every pound raised will go towards vital spay/neuter clinics, vaccinations, and emergency treatment for animals in desperate need overseas.

Claudia, who recently visited Sri Lanka, said: “After visiting Sri Lanka, I was absolutely horrified. Seeing the suffering of the dogs and cats broke me, and I knew immediately that I needed to do something to help. I reached out to Lucas Helps Dogs and together we began planning how we could make a difference.”

The day’s highlight will be the arrival of Pen Farthing, founder of the world-famous Nowzad charity, who will serve as guest judge for the dog show.

Farthing is known for rescuing animals from war zones, and visitors will have the chance to meet him – and maybe even take home a prize awarded by him.

Activities include:
• Dog show judged by Pen Farthing
• Barbecue, cakes, and refreshments
• Competitions, raffle, and auction
• Bouncy castle and children’s activities
• Canine massage
• Phoenix Aerial performance
• Talks, stalls, and a photo box

Organisers say the event will be “a fantastic way to end the summer holidays while supporting a cause that saves lives every day.”
