It’s never too late to protect your child
Parents in Exeter are being urged to check their children’s MMR vaccination status during the summer holidays, as measles cases continue to rise across England.
Since January, 674 confirmed measles cases have been reported nationally, with the majority in London and the North West. The South West has seen 58 cases so far this year.
However, the UK Health Security Agency South West (UKHSA) is warning that the new school term could bring a fresh surge.
Professor Dominic Mellon from UKHSA South West said: “The summer break is a vital opportunity for parents to catch up on missed MMR vaccines. It’s never too late to protect your child and others around them.”
The MMR vaccine is free on the NHS and offers the best protection against measles, mumps and rubella. Two doses are required for full protection.
