As summer holidays begin, visitors to Exeter and East Devon have plenty of options for days out, with local attractions unveiling a packed schedule of activities designed to entertain all ages.

Devon’s Top Attractions, a collective representing the county’s leading visitor sites, say their members are ready to welcome visitors this summer with a wide range of events throughout Exeter and East Devon.

Visitors to Exeter for summer will find plenty of creative and outdoor activities on offer. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) is hosting workshops that coincide with its new ‘Wild’ exhibition.

Highlights include an Owl Day on 5 August, craft sessions to create landscape art, and fire lighting workshops on 7 and 21 August. The museum will also run nature storytelling and doodling sessions later in the month.

Nearby, the Devon Railway Centre offers unlimited rides on two railways, a large model railway exhibition, and an Edwardian model village. Younger children can enjoy a themed soft play area while families take on the on-site crazy golf course.

Along the coast, Seaton Tramway has themed rides planned including the Pirate Tram and Dinosaur Tram, with activities such as music, storytelling, and fossil digs at Colyton Station.

Visitors can extend their day of dinosaur fun by visiting the neighbouring Jurassic Discovery attraction.

Killerton, the National Trust property near Exeter, has launched its Summer of Play programme running until 7 September.

Visitors can take part in sports, circus skills workshops with Flotsam Circus, storytelling, and explore six different play areas, all weatherproof thanks to covered spaces.

Sidmouth’s Donkey Sanctuary invites families to embark on the Donkey Passport Trail, which takes visitors on a global adventure learning about donkeys’ roles in countries including Peru and Kenya.

The trail costs £5 and offers a prize upon completion.

Anne Blackham, Marketing Manager for Devon’s Top Attractions, said: “Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors and spend quality time together. Our members have created a fantastic line-up of activities for families across Exeter and East Devon to enjoy.”
