A popular Danish homeware retailer is set to open in Exeter city centre, bringing with it new jobs, investment, and a fresh draw for shoppers.

Søstrene Grene, known for its elegant Scandinavian interiors, hobby goods and giftware, will soon move into the ground floor of Paternoster House, a prominent historic building in the city centre. The store is expected to open later this summer following a fit-out period of 8 to 10 weeks.

The multi-year lease has been agreed with NooKo, a locally founded property development company with a focus on restoring historic buildings and delivering sustainable, community-led projects.

Max Sayers, Director at NooKo, said: “This partnership represents a major step forward in our vision for Exeter city centre. Søstrene Grene’s dedication to quality, design, and community aligns well with our values.

Their presence will bring economic benefits and create new jobs, contributing to the revitalisation of the city.”

Søstrene Grene’s Group CEO and co-owner, Mikkel Grene, added: “We are delighted to be opening a store in beautiful Exeter. The city’s historic charm fits well with our focus on offering our visitors wonderful and extraordinary experiences.

Our sensory concept ‘Retail for the Senses’ aims to give people a peaceful moment away from busy life.”

The brand has seen growing popularity in the UK and is expected to appeal to a wide customer base in the South West. The new Exeter store will feature its signature calming interior style, minimalist décor, and curated product ranges.

Nicola Wheeler, CEO of InExeter, said the arrival was a major boost for the city, “Søstrene Grene’s arrival is a fantastic addition to Exeter’s High Street. Set within a beautifully restored historic building, the new store promises to be a major draw for visitors.”

Paternoster House is one of the latest in a line of Exeter properties renovated by NooKo, alongside projects like Concord House and the upcoming restoration of the Royal Clarence. The developer works with local craftspeople and colleges to preserve heritage while creating energy-efficient modern spaces.
