A yellow heat-health alert is currently in place across much of the UK, including the South West, with temperatures expected to reach 30°C in some areas.
The alert, issued by the UK Health Security Agency and Met Office, covers the period from 12pm on Wednesday 18 June until 6pm on Sunday 22 June.
Train infrastructure can be affected by prolonged heat, with rail operators warning of potential speed restrictions or service alterations to manage the risk of track buckling.
Advice for rail users includes travelling with water, avoiding peak times where possible, and checking journey information before heading to the station.
According to the Met Office, this week’s conditions meet heatwave thresholds for many areas and follow a trend of rising high-temperature days across the UK. Their latest climate report highlights an increased likelihood of extreme heat as summers continue to warm.
