Police are appealing for doorbell and dashcam footage after burglars stole an ATM during a dramatic early morning raid at a Co-op.

The incident happened at around 4.05am on Wednesday 4 June at the Younghayes Road store in Cranbrook. Detectives believe three male suspects were involved and made off with the cash machine.

Officers are linking the break-in to an attempted burglary at another Co-op on Buddle Lane, Exeter, which took place just 25 minutes earlier, at around 3.40am.

In both cases, two dark-coloured vehicles were spotted nearby. A black Land Rover, believed to have been used by the suspects, was later found abandoned. Detectives think the men switched vehicles and left the scene in a second black car – possibly an Audi, Mercedes or BMW – which may have had false number plates.

A scene guard was put in place at the Cranbrook store but has since been lifted.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Boundy said, “We would like to hear from anybody who saw any suspicious activity in either area at the time of the different incidents.

We would particularly like to hear from anyone who has doorbell or dashcam footage that could help to identify the second vehicle involved.”

Anyone with information or relevant footage is urged to contact police on 101 or via the Devon and Cornwall Police website, quoting crime reference 50250140590.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling 0800 555111.
