Plans have been revealed to transform the former Bramdean School site in Heavitree into specialist retirement housing.
McCarthy Stone, the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, has launched a public consultation on proposals to build around 36 one- and two-bedroom apartments for over-60s on disused land off Homefield Road.
The local community is invited to share feedback online (click here) until Monday 16 June.
The scheme would include shared spaces such as a homeowners’ lounge, a guest suite for visiting friends and family, landscaped gardens and parking facilities.
Simon Broomfield, Divisional Development Director for McCarthy Stone Southern, said: “We are pleased to reveal our emerging plans to deliver a new specialist retirement development in Heavitree. Our proposals would help to address a demand for retirement accommodation in the area, providing housing choice for older people, whilst freeing up the wider housing market for local families and first-time buyers further down the chain.”
McCarthy Stone says a high proportion of over-65s currently own their homes, and helping them to move to more suitable accommodation can free up family-sized properties across the housing ladder.
Feedback from the consultation will help shape the final application submitted to Exeter City Council.
Anyone unable to access the online plans can request information by calling the project team’s Freephone number on 0800 298 7040 or emailing feedback@mccarthystoneconsultation.co.uk.
