Students, jobseekers and curious minds are being invited to uncover the hidden world of NHS science at a special careers event in Exeter next month.

On Wednesday, 18 June, the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will host an interactive, detective-themed careers experience at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford), offering attendees the chance to explore behind the scenes of genomics and pathology.

Taking place from 3.00pm to 6.30pm in Seminar Room 1 at the RILD Building, the event is designed to showcase the critical work of biomedical scientists, genetic technologists and clinical scientists - professions that play a key role in more than 70% of all NHS diagnoses.

“Pathology and genomics play a vital role in over 70% of NHS diagnoses - yet many aren't aware of the exciting careers behind the scenes in these areas,” said Laura Jones, Senior Biomedical Scientist at the Royal Devon.

“This interactive event gives you the chance to step into the shoes of NHS scientists, explore the cutting-edge work they do, and discover how you could be part of the NHS's future, whatever stage you're at in your education or career.”

The event will feature hands-on activities to simulate real medical ‘mysteries’, showcasing the tools and techniques used by NHS scientists every day. Attendees will also be able to speak directly to clinical staff and learn about different career routes, including qualifications and training pathways.

Aimed at school, college and university students as well as adults considering a career change, the event is free to attend and open to all.
