A lorry fire on the A30 near Exeter Airport caused major disruption to traffic on Thursday afternoon (15 May), with closures in place for several hours between Ottery St Mary and Exeter.
The incident, involving a heavy goods vehicle, was first reported at 12.40pm.
The A30 was closed in both directions between the B3174/B3180 (Ottery St Mary) and the B3184 (Exeter), with traffic backing up for miles.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service remained on scene throughout the afternoon, tackling the blaze and ensuring the area was safe for reopening.
By 2.10pm, the eastbound carriageway had reopened, though one lane remained closed westbound.
According to National Highways, all lanes are now open eastbound with no significant delays in either direction, while lane 1 westbound remains closed for clean-up and recovery work.
The incident happened near the junction for Exeter Airport, adding to delays in the surrounding area.
Motorists were advised to avoid the route where possible during peak hours.
