Police have named the 13-year-old boy who died after being pulled from the canal in Exeter on Monday 5 May.

Delvin Musakwa, from Exeter, was recovered from the water near Clapperbrook Lane East after emergency services were called at around 4.35pm.

It had been reported that Delvin had failed to resurface after jumping into the canal. Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene.

He was taken to hospital in a serious condition but was later pronounced deceased.

Acting Superintendent Chris Conway said: “The family are being supported by specialist officers after this awful and tragic incident.

They have asked that their privacy be respected as they come to terms with their devastating loss.”

Police added, “At this time, we are not anticipating that the family will be issuing a tribute, and we would ask that their request for privacy is respected.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
