Exeter Northcott Theatre is calling on local performers to join the cast of its next community production - and no previous acting experience is required.
The theatre is forming a voluntary community ensemble to appear in a new stage adaptation based on Exe Men: The Extraordinary Rise of the Exeter Chiefs by journalist Robert Kitson.
The project is part of the theatre’s Made by Exeter Northcott programme and will be directed by Creative Director Martin Berry.
The full production will be announced soon, but the creative team has confirmed it will bring together theatre and rugby in a unique way.
The production follows the success of The Commotion Time in 2024, which brought together 40 local performers and a community choir.
Auditions are open to anyone aged 18 or over on 1 July 2025, and performers with an interest in rugby, whether as players or fans, are especially encouraged to apply.
The ensemble will share the stage with a professional cast during performances from 6 to 20 October 2025 at Exeter Northcott Theatre. Evening shows and weekend matinees are planned, and applicants must be fully available during the production period.
Rehearsals will take place on Thursday evenings from July through October, with occasional Saturday sessions.
Workshop-style auditions will be held at Exeter Northcott and Barnfield Theatres on the following dates:
10am–12pm, Saturday 17 May (Northcott)
12–2pm, Saturday 17 May (Northcott)
6–8pm, Monday 19 May (Barnfield)
6–8pm, Wednesday 21 May (Barnfield)
Applicants only need to attend one audition slot and are asked to register online by 9am on Monday 19 May. Full details and the registration form are available via the Northcott’s Work With Us page.
If you’ve ever fancied giving theatre a go, this might just be the excuse you’ve been waiting for.
