Helping Hands Topsham is marking six months of providing personalised home care, having already supported 69 local residents and created 36 new jobs in the community.
Based at Woodmanton Farm in Woodbury, the branch opened in late August 2024 and has seen growing demand for its services. The team offers tailored care ranging from companionship and everyday support to dementia care and 24-hour live-in assistance.
To celebrate its early success, Helping Hands hosted a community launch event in December. Guests included Exmouth Town Crier Roger Bourgein, who spoke of the compassionate care he’s received from the organisation.
“I want to thank Helping Hands for what they do – I know it’s in the title, but as a customer I can say I’m completely indebted to the lovely, empathetic carers who help make my life easier,” he said. “Every one of them that comes to visit me, cares. And I feel it!”
The event also featured a talk by Gill McLean from Topsham Museum, who shared stories about the town’s Roman roots, its fishing heritage, and colourful local traditions like the ‘Topsham 10’ pub crawl. She also highlighted the legacy of Topsham-born footballer Richard Pym, a former England goalkeeper and FA Cup winner.
Karen Hoskins, Branch Care Manager, said: “Helping Hands is built on the belief that everyone deserves to live well in the homes and communities they love, no matter their circumstances. We are thrilled to highlight the positive impact we’re making here in Topsham.”
Helping Hands Topsham continues to recruit for caregiving roles to meet increasing demand. The branch is part of a national network of over 150 services that have supported families across the UK since 1989.
