A South Devon independent school is offering a fully funded place for a local child as part of a prestigious bursary scheme.
St Christopher’s Prep School in Staverton has opened applications for the Gregory Kenyon Bursary Award, which covers up to 100% of school fees for a pupil who shows exceptional promise - whether academic, creative, or sporting - but may not otherwise be able to access independent education due to financial constraints.
The bursary honours the school’s founder, Gregory Kenyon, who co-established St Christopher’s in 1991 with his wife Jane. Their daughter, Alexandra, now leads the school as Head, continuing the family’s commitment to inclusive, nurturing education.
Mrs Cottell said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for a local child to join us at St Christopher’s. We’re looking for someone who demonstrates real potential and whose family is ready to engage with and support our vibrant school community.”
The parents of last year’s bursary recipient shared:
“Our daughter was fortunate to receive a bursary to join St Christopher’s in Year 4. Since then, the school has been incredible. They’ve helped her reach her true potential. She’s now a confident young woman who previously found it difficult to thrive in a larger setting.
Every child is given a wealth of opportunities, and she’s been encouraged to take part in everything from regional and national sporting events to unforgettable residentials and inspiring learning experiences. Above all, it’s the care, thoughtfulness, and kindness of every teacher that we’re most grateful for. We will always be thankful for the school’s nurturing ethos and for the difference they’ve made to our daughter and our whole family.”
St Christopher’s is a non-selective prep school for children aged 3–11, set in the peaceful South Hams countryside. With a strong emphasis on personalised learning and expert teaching staff, it has grown over the past 30 years into one of the region’s most respected independent schools.
As well as the flagship Gregory Kenyon Bursary, the school offers additional scholarships with fee reductions of 10–20%.
Bursary Day will take place on Tuesday 7 May 2025.
To apply, parents should email office@st-christophers.devon.sch.uk. Applicants will be invited to visit the school as part of the process.
