Don Armand joins charity fun day at Ugbrooke

Cancer Lifeline South West (CLSW) is inviting families from across Devon to come together for a day of fun, connection, and fundraising on Sunday 27 April, as the charity hosts its first ever Family Fun Day in the stunning grounds of Ugbrooke House, near Newton Abbot.

Running from 11am to 4pm, the day promises entertainment for all ages. Attendees can look forward to:

  • A fun-filled dog show

  • Sports demos and taster sessions led by former Exeter Chiefs and England rugby star Don Armand

  • Flora and fauna walks with Chudleigh WILD

  • Foraging tours with Colin Wheeler-James of Ground Up Cookery

  • The delightfully quirky Human Fruit Machine

  • Live music, kids’ games, stalls and a generous prize draw

  • A delicious food court offering BBQ, pizza, crepes and more

  • Plus the rare opportunity to explore the Capability Brown-designed grounds of Ugbrooke House

Admission is just £5 per adult, with free entry for children accompanied by an adult. Dogs are welcome on leads.

Since 2002, CLSW has offered free “Time to Retune” therapeutic breaks to those recovering from cancer treatment and their primary carers. The charity receives no public funding and relies entirely on donations, sponsorship and community events to continue its vital work.

Chair of Trustees Donna Cook said:

“One in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime. These breaks are a lifeline, giving people time to reflect, recharge and look ahead. We hope this event brings people together and helps raise the funds needed to keep supporting those who need it most.”

The event has received strong local backing. The grounds have been kindly donated for the day by Alexander and Lucy Clifford, and Newton Abbot Rotary Club will be helping with car parking. Key sponsors include DCW Polymers, Ground Up Cookery, Hurn Recycling, Sampson Armand Ltd, and The Old Rydon Inn. Additional support comes from Chudfest, Chudleigh Carnival, Chudleigh Community Primary School, and a dedicated team of volunteers.

Kate McCormick, Trustee and event organiser, added:

“We’re so grateful for the generous support of local businesses and community groups. Events like this take a village to make happen – and we’re hoping for sunshine to top it all off!”
