Parking charges at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust sites will rise from today, 1 April 2025, with the Trust citing the need to cover maintenance costs and support patient care.

The new rates will apply to visitors at several sites, including the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford and Heavitree), North Devon District Hospital, Bideford Hospital and Barnstaple Health Centre. Prices will increase across the board, though the Trust has confirmed that parking will remain free for many eligible groups.

The updated charges will be:

  • Up to 30 minutes: Free

  • Up to 2 hours: £3.20

  • Up to 4 hours: £6.40

  • Up to 6 hours: £9.50

  • Up to 24 hours: £15.90

Chris Tidman, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Royal Devon, said, “Raising car parking charges is not something we want to do, but we need the income to provide and maintain our car parks. All parking income goes to the Trust, so any money left over supports us to provide patient care.”

He added that free parking would still be available for blue badge holders, registered carers, volunteers, parents of inpatients under 18, and people attending hospital frequently for treatment.

The Trust is also encouraging visitors to consider alternative travel options, including walking, cycling and public transport. “Our park and ride in Exeter is a great option, costing just £2 for a return,” said Tidman.
