Introducing students to career opportunities

Stagecoach inspires the next generation of workers

In celebration of National Careers Week (3-8 March 2025), Stagecoach South West visited Sidbury Primary School in East Devon to engage students in discussions and spark their imaginations about potential careers in the bus industry.

National Careers Week is a dedicated initiative aimed at providing quality careers guidance and resources to students across the UK. The goal is to support young people in developing awareness and excitement about their future career paths.

During the visit, Stagecoach representatives introduced students to various roles within the company, including drivers, engineers, customer service personnel, and administrative staff. The interactive session allowed pupils to ask questions, linking the skills required for different jobs back to their schoolwork.

Rob Friend, CPS Trainer at Stagecoach South West, said: “It was great to meet with young people at Sidbury Primary School during National Careers Week to share insights about the diverse jobs available in the bus industry. Engaging with the local community is a core focus for us at Stagecoach, and inspiring the next generation is part of that.”

Emily Foote, Headteacher at Sidbury Primary School, added: "We were delighted to welcome Stagecoach South West during National Careers Week. Their interactive approach has provided our students with a fun overview of potential future jobs they could consider."

She continued: "Sidbury Primary School is committed to providing our students with access to extra-curricular learning opportunities on a regular basis. By inviting external visitors into assemblies and classrooms, we aim to broaden students’ horizons, inspire curiosity, and enrich their educational experience with real-world insights."

The visit was part of Stagecoach South West’s wider commitment to community engagement, aiming to encourage young people to explore career opportunities and consider the transport industry as a future profession.
