Exeter City announce sports law placement

Exeter City AFC Ltd has teamed up with regional law firm Wollens to offer an exciting one-year placement in sports law, giving aspiring legal professionals a rare opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both football and commercial law.

The successful applicant will split their time between the club and Wollens, spending three days a week at Exeter City, working within a professional sporting environment, and two days at Wollens, shadowing solicitors in its Sports Law Division.

The role promises a varied experience, covering everything from player contracts and regulatory compliance to commercial agreements and sponsorship deals.

The placement is designed for an individual with a passion for sport and an interest in commercial law, offering a unique chance to develop expertise in two distinct but interconnected sectors.

Both Exeter City, a supporter-owned club, and Wollens, a firm known for its expanding sports law practice, will provide extensive training and mentorship.

As part of Exeter City’s commitment to balancing on-field success with long-term sustainability, the role will expose the candidate to football governance, transfer agreements, and operational legal matters.

Meanwhile, Wollens’ sports law team -launched in 2023 - offers experience in a growing sector, representing athletes and organisations across a range of sports, from football to motorsport and bobsleigh.

Applications are open until 5pm on Sunday, 13 April 2025, with interviews scheduled to take place at St James Park on 30 April 2025. The placement will commence on 1 July 2025.
