Ever watched a performance in a pub car park? How about one inside a car? This February, theatre lovers in East Devon will get the chance to experience both as Blind Spot – a one-of-a-kind comedy theatre performance – arrives at The Dog and Donkey in Knowle for special shows on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February.
Created by Alright Mate? CIC, Blind Spot transforms an ordinary car into an intimate pop-up theatre, with audience members quite literally taking a back seat while the drama unfolds in the front. Designed to feel like eavesdropping on a real-life conversation, the performance offers a humorous and relatable take on those deep, unexpected discussions that happen on car journeys.
With sharp dialogue, laugh-out-loud moments, and a few unexpected twists, Blind Spot provides a fresh, entertaining look at the challenges men face when talking about their feelings. Developed through interviews with men across Devon, the show blends comedy with real-life experiences to create an engaging and meaningful performance.
Funded by Arts Council England and the Creative East Devon Fund through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Blind Spot has already toured across the county, appearing in a range of unconventional locations, from shopping centres and village halls to beaches and public parks.
Cally Hayes, director of Alright Mate? CIC and writer of Blind Spot, said: "We've had so much fun making this show. We spoke to 14 men in Devon about how hard it can be for men to open up about their feelings. They wanted the show to be funny and honest because it's only when you're honest with yourself that you can get the support you need."
Director Luke Jeffery added: "Comedy and laughter can be really powerful tools for tackling difficult subjects. The unconventional concept has captured people's imaginations and is already sparking lots of conversations."
With limited spaces available, audiences are encouraged to book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
