20-year-old tragically dies after fall from Exeter bridge

Police appeal for witnesses after fatal incident near A379

A woman has died following an incident in Exeter in the early hours of Saturday, 1 February.

Emergency services were called at around 12.45am after reports that a woman had fallen from a bridge near the A379. Further reports indicated that she was then struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The woman, who was in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

The road was closed for several hours while police and emergency crews worked at the scene.

A 45-year-old man from Exmouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that may assist with the investigation. Those with information can contact police via their website or by calling 101, quoting reference number 50250026540.
