Free meal and social event in Honiton

Hill House is bringing the community together with a free meal, live music, and friendly company

Free meal and social event in Honiton

Hill House, a care home in Honiton run by the Abbeyfield Living Society, is inviting people who would otherwise be eating alone to join them for a free community lunch on Monday, 17 February.

The ‘Don’t Eat Alone’ lunch, starting at 2.30pm, will be followed by live entertainment from The Allsorts, a much-loved local band fronted by the daughter and son-in-law of a former resident.

The event is open to anyone in the community who would benefit from a good meal, social interaction, and the chance to meet new people.

Nic Trueman, Hill House’s activities and wellbeing lead, said, “We know the toll loneliness can take on both mental and physical health. By bringing people together over a hearty lunch and some great company, we hope to brighten someone’s day and perhaps even spark new friendships.”

Hill House provides residential and dementia-friendly care for up to 30 older people, along with respite stays to support those recovering from hospital visits or giving full-time carers a well-earned break.

Care Home Manager Melody Taylor-Brown hopes the event will also showcase the warm and welcoming environment at Hill House. “Although this is just a few hours, we’d love for guests to see the benefits of life here, whether for a short stay or as a future resident,” she said.

The initiative follows the success of Hill House’s Christmas Day event, where 10 guests who would have spent the day alone enjoyed a festive meal - complete with a visit from Father Christmas himself.

This event is free to attend, and the care home encourages as many people as possible to spread the word to those who may benefit.
