Motorists using the A379 at Brixton should prepare for overnight closures starting Monday, 3 February, as essential drainage repairs and resurfacing work get underway.
The A379 serves as a key route for commuters between Plymouth and Exeter.
Site investigations have revealed significant damage to the drainage system, requiring excavation to replace and repair pipes where necessary. Due to the extent of the work and the width of the road, a full closure is necessary to ensure the safety of both the public and site workers.
The overnight closures will be in place between Sungates and The Foxhound Inn from 7pm to 6am each weekday evening. The road will remain open during the daytime on weekdays and all day on weekends, with no work taking place on Saturdays or Sundays.
Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by Saturday, 1 March.
Residents within the site area can liaise with site staff at the scheme’s gates for access to their properties, though some delays should be expected. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times. Motorists are also advised not to park along the affected section of the A379 overnight while the work is carried out.
A signed diversion will be in place during the overnight closures, directing traffic via Elburton Road, Haye Road, Hercules Road, Main Street, Deep Lane, the A38 to Avonwick, the B3372, the A3121, and back onto the A379.
Drivers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys during the works.
