Hospiscare’s much-loved Men’s Walk is returning this March, and the local charity is calling on the community’s support to help reach its £1 million fundraising milestone.

For the past 13 years, the event has been a tradition of "stomping boots, raising pints, and enjoying pasties," raising an impressive £935,000 for Hospiscare, which provides essential end-of-life care to over 2,200 patients annually. This year, the charity is aiming to push that total past the £1 million mark.

Hospiscare is a charity providing specialist care for adults with terminal illnesses and their families across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. With only 15% of funding coming from the NHS, Hospiscare relies on the generosity of the local community to provide expert care at no cost to patients and their families.

The charity operates across four locations: Searle House in Exeter, Kings House in Honiton, Pine Lodge in Tiverton, and High View in Exmouth, alongside home and community-based care.

The Men’s Walk will take place on March 15 at Double Locks, Exeter, with an additional flexible ‘Your Way’ option, allowing participants to choose both their route and location. This year’s event is especially significant, as it celebrates the incredible support that has helped raise nearly £1 million for local end-of-life care.

Senior Events Fundraiser Martin Stokke said: “Men’s Walk holds a special place in so many hearts. It’s a chance for friends to reunite, for grandfathers to share meaningful moments with their children and grandchildren, and for everyone to make a real difference to a cause that helps so many. This year, we’ll walk in honour of those who have walked before us and in memory of those no longer with us. Together, we can reach the incredible milestone of £1 million for Hospiscare.”

Hospiscare relies heavily on community support. The funds raised through events like Men’s Walk are crucial in enabling the charity to provide free, specialist care for those with terminal illnesses and their families across Exeter, Central and East Devon.

This year’s event has been made possible thanks to the continued sponsorship of Wilkinson Grant & Co, as well as the generous support of event partners Exeter Brewery, Chunk of Devon, and Double Locks Exeter.

The Men’s Walk event has sold out four years in a row, and organisers are urging participants to sign up early to be part of the march to a million. Anyone who registers by midnight on February 2 will be entered for a chance to win dinner and drinks for two (worth £80) at Double Locks in Exeter.
