Sidmouth Folk Festival 2025
The Sidmouth Folk Festival, one of Britain’s most cherished cultural events, is gearing up for its 71st edition, set to bring vibrant music, dance, and festivities to the Devon seaside town from August 1 to 8, 2025.
Celebrated as the finest folk festival in the UK, the event boasts an exciting and eclectic line-up, featuring both legendary and contemporary artists from across the globe.
Among the first acts announced are iconic English singer-songwriter Richard Thompson, Irish music virtuoso Sharon Shannon, Dartmoor’s own Seth Lakeman Band, and the award-winning Canadian trio The East Pointers.
Other highlights include Devon's folk powerhouse Steve Knightley, Anglo-Irish instrumentalists Flook, Scotland’s indie folk band Elephant Sessions, political singer-songwriter Grace Petrie, and the Isle of Skye’s electrifying Peatbog Faeries.
Irish trad legends Dervish are also set to return, alongside Westcountry star Charlie Cooper, known for his role in Myth Country.
The festivities kick off early with two pre-festival shows. Cornwall’s beloved Fisherman’s Friends will perform on the evening of July 31, while folk icons Fairport Convention will take the stage on the afternoon of August 1 to officially warm up the crowds.
Rooted in tradition since 1955, the Sidmouth Folk Festival transforms the entire town into a celebration of music and dance. From the bustling seafront to intimate venues, the festival offers something for everyone, whether it’s major concerts in the Ham marquee, high-energy late-night parties in the Bulverton tent, or pop-up sessions in pubs and streets.
This year’s programme includes over 250 workshops, offering everything from instrument lessons and dance calling to crafts and folk history talks. Attendees can join the Festival Choir or Big Band, delve into storytelling sessions, or explore Devon’s mumming traditions.
For families, the dedicated Children’s Festival and the Shooting Roots programme for young creatives promise an inspirational experience. Dance enthusiasts can look forward to dazzling displays from Morris, Rapper, Appalachian, and other styles, alongside quirky favourites like the John Gasson Jig Competition and the Horse Trials hobby horse contest.
Whether you want to dip in for a day or immerse yourself for the full week, the festival caters to all. Camping options near the action, early bird tickets, and seats for pre-festival headline shows are now available at the festival website.
