A wine tasting evening hosted by Wine World in Honiton has raised £1,263.50 for Westbank’s Devon Young Carers service, leaving a lasting positive impact for the Exminster-based charity.

The event took place on Friday, November 22, at Markaness Hall in Honiton. Guests sampled over 100 wines from around the globe in a festive atmosphere, with proceeds going towards supporting young carers across Devon.

Julian Packer, owner of Wine World, which operates shops in Honiton and Topsham, said, “Our wine tasting evening in the run-up to Christmas was a fun way for us to raise money to support young people who care for others. The Markaness Hall is a fantastic venue in the heart of Honiton that was large enough to accommodate lots of eager wine tasters. We’re sure the money raised will be put to very good use providing activities for young people who often miss out on things because of their personal circumstances.”

Devon Young Carers provides vital support for young people who help care for family members, often facing unique challenges.

Patrick Agnew, the service’s manager, expressed his gratitude: “We’re very grateful to Wine World for supporting us. Devon’s young carers often feel a huge weight of responsibility on their shoulders helping to look after family members who couldn’t manage without them. The money raised will make a real difference to the level of support and range of activities we can provide for them.”

The funds will help Devon Young Carers to organise activities and support initiatives, ensuring young carers have opportunities to focus on their own well-being and development.
