Steve Race MP took a unique approach to his Christmas cards this year by opening a competition to children in Key Stage 2 across schools in the Exeter constituency. The challenge was to design the front of his official Christmas card, with over 600 entries submitted by eager young artists.
The first-place winner, Scott Evans from Wynstream School, was presented with his prize during a special assembly visit from Mr. Race. Scott’s winning design featured a festive scene of Exeter Cathedral, with its iconic stained glass windows serving as the backdrop. As part of his prize, Scott received a certificate and books by Marcus Rashford and on politics.
Mr. Race also spent a rewarding afternoon visiting the runners-up: George Bernard, Olivia Passey, and Owen Skittrell, who won the "Most Unique Card" award. Each runner-up was presented with a certificate and a sweet treat, chocolate from the House of Commons.
Commenting on the competition, Mr. Race said, “I was delighted to launch my Christmas card competition for primary school children in Exeter, and had a brilliant time judging the more than 600 entries. It was a tough task, but I loved Scott’s entry because it showed Exeter at its Christmassy best.”
In addition to the special assembly, Mr. Race mentioned that he had sent nearly 2,000 Christmas cards to people and organisations in Exeter and beyond, including to the Bishop of Exeter, the Prime Minister, and even to Their Majesties The King and Queen. He added with a smile, “Scott’s Christmas card design may even take pride of place on the mantelpiece of Buckingham Palace!”
